Boreal Wildlands Carbon Project

The Boreal Wildlands, located south of Hearst, Ontario, is a massive carbon sink, storing 190 million tonnes of carbon, or the equivalent of the lifetime emissions of approximately three million cars. The conservation of Boreal Wildlands is one of many nature-based solutions to lessening the impact of climate change. Conserving this area helps prevent the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and allows it to continue absorbing and storing greenhouse gases for decades to come.
The Boreal Wildlands Forest Carbon Offset Project is currently undergoing validation and verification under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standard (CCB), and Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta). The audit will be conducted virtually/remotely by S&A Carbon, an independent validation/verification body, between April 18th and May 10th, 2024.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) and TD Securities (TDS) have developed an innovative agreement that will deliver an estimated six million carbon credits over a 30-year term, while also protecting the lands and waters that clean our air, filter our water and provide habitat to many at-risk species.
These carbon credits are developed under the internationally leading Verra Verified Carbon Standard and are certified for the co-benefits they provide, beyond carbon sequestration. This process will ensure the Boreal Wildland Carbon Project’s credibility and integrity for the 100-year lifespans of its credits.
TDS’s investment in NCC directly funds on-the-ground conservation work in the area, and across the country. It represents a long-term commitment to nature-based solutions and to NCC’s commitment to accelerate the protection of our country’s most important natural areas.
The credits are sold in the voluntary carbon market to businesses, governments and other agencies that demonstrate they are already actively seeking to reduce their carbon footprint.
