Annuities

You can support the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) in a significant way with a charitable gift annuity.

Simply put, an annuity consists of two parts:

  • a gift to NCC for which you will receive a tax receipt; and
  • a guaranteed stream of virtually tax-free income for life.

This arrangement enables you to make a gift and increase your annual income.

Charitable gift annuities are especially attractive if you are a conservative investor 65 years of age or older.

They represent safe investments that offer significantly higher returns than you could receive through GICs.

How it works

A minimum of $10,000 is transferred to NCC.

The amount is divided into two parts:

  • one third is counted as an immediate donation to NCC, for which you receive a charitable tax receipt;
  • the remainder is used to purchase an annuity from a top-rated insurance company.

The annuity income is guaranteed in the form of contractual payments typically at higher rates than other conservative investments, such as GICs, because charitable gift annuities are a combination of income and capital.
