Mikaela Fero
Mikaela Fero is the coordinator for the development and communications team at the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) in Alberta. She collaborates with the team to ensure their continued success in raising funds that allow NCC to achieve its ground-level conservation efforts.
Mikaela started with NCC in March of 2022. She wanted to build a career with an organization whose mission and values she admired. Working for NCC means that she gets to contribute to conservation in Canada every single day.
Mikaela graduated from the University of Calgary in 2017 with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics, a bachelor of science degree in geophysics and a minor in geology. After university, she spent a year working for the United Way of Calgary and Area as a data analyst. She then moved to Birchcliff Energy, where she worked as strategic planning analyst for the next 3 1/2 years before joining NCC. In addition to her work experience, she has lots of volunteer experience, mainly in mathematics programming for youth with the Calgary Public Library.
When not working, you can usually find Mikaelar out on the trails. In summer, she spends her time hiking, mountain biking and backpacking. In winter, she loves to cross-country ski. Weekdays you can also find her around the city running, walking and biking on Calgary’s great pathway system.
Mikaela tends to be partial to birds. Some of the most common here in Calgary are her favourites —black-billed magpie (beautiful and hilarious), black-capped chickadee (adorable and chubby) and downy woodpeckers (small and mighty).
