NCC is proud to have supported the creation of 10 new conservancies in Clayoquot Sound through the vision of the Ahousaht and Tla-o-qui-aht Nations, and at the invitation of the Nations and Nature United. Together, these conservancies protect more than 76,000 hectares of Pacific coastal rainforests on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Projects of this scale do not happen in isolation — they require multiple groups with different expertise to come together to find a conservation solution. NCC is pleased to have been able to play a role, alongside Nature United, governments and other conservation groups, in this historic and Indigenous-led effort to build a durable and equitable conservation solution for these globally important forests.
Helping to grow the resiliency of BC’s forests is one of NCC’s priorities in the face of the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. We are grateful for funding support from the Government of Canada through the Natural Heritage Conservation Program, part of Canada’s Nature Fund, and from Teck Resources, which enabled NCC to help deliver this significant conservation outcome.
