Alex Switzer is an assistant conservation biologist for the Nature Conservancy of Canada's (NCC's) Manitoba Region. She studied biological sciences with a focus on ecology and animal science at Brandon University for her BSc. While completing her BSc, she completed an advanced topics course that looked at the movement and habitat use of the endangered northern prairie skink in southwestern Manitoba.
Alex has over four years of experience in the natural resource sector, working as a student for Sustainable Development (now Agriculture and Resource Development) during her time in university. While with Sustainable Development, she worked under the Crown Lands Branch completing field inspections of crown land parcels and permits and GIS mapping of licenses and provincial data sets.
Alex's work at NCC primarily focuses on ecological restoration, creating new habitat and improving existing habitat. She's involved in multiple active land management activities, evaluates restoration success, works on various GIS projects and research's knowledge gaps to increase NCC's ecological restoration capacity for the future.
