Neil Hardy
Atlantic Board Member
Born in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England, Neil Hardy spent his formative years, when not at school, tromping and backpacking along the Pennines, Yorkshire Dales and mountains of the Lake District, western Scotland and Wales. His pack was always heavier returning than setting out, crammed with interesting rocks. After graduating from Reading University with a B.Sc. in estate management, he worked in Liverpool before emigrating to Canada in 1980, picking up professional designations on the way. He has lived in St. John’s, Newfoundland, since 1982.
Neil’s professional career has been in real estate consulting. His company was part of a national group affiliation that went public in 2005, creating Altus Group. As the Atlantic regional manager of Altus Group until retiring in 2021, he obtained unique perspectives of the geography and economy of the region.
Neil and his wife, Sharon, ran a hiking club for many years and continue to backpack wilderness areas throughout the province. Neil served as vice-president trails with the East Coast Trail Association for many years, and was presented with a Forest Stewardship Recognition Award by Wildlife Canada Habitat for his work with the association. He is passionate about protecting important wilderness and areas of natural beauty and diversity for the enjoyment of future generations.
