Prior to joining the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), Piers Evans studied and worked in the environmental field for many years, helping communities prepare for the impacts of climate change, studying the impacts of climate change on Newfoundland's forests, and as a canoe and whitewater rafting guide. As NCC’s program director for Newfoundland and Labrador, he will lead NCC’s conservation efforts across the province and engage communities in helping to protect natural spaces for today and future generations.

Piers is also the volunteer vice-chair of the Environmental Education Commission in St. John’s. The commission is responsible for the operation of the Environmental Education Centre at Echo Pond.

Piers was born and raised in southern Ontario and has lived in five provinces. His first exposure to Newfoundland and Labrador was during a 2010 snowshoeing trip in the Long Range Mountains, which drew him back to raft the Exploits River the following year and inspired the permanent move to Newfoundland and Labrador in 2012.

Piers holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s of science degree in geography and biogeography from Memorial University. He lives in St. John’s with his partner and young son, and together they continue to explore the beautiful places across the province.
