Real Rivers Have Curves - Part 2

Are you tired of sticking to the straight and narrow? So is Willow Creek! Join NCC and the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) for a wet and wild day of installing wing deflectors made of “retired” coniferous trees along Willow Creek in the internationally significant Minesing Wetlands. Once installed, these wing deflectors will give Willow Creek it’s curves back by returning the stream to it’s natural meander (S-shape) and acting as habitat for fish and aquatic bugs. Physical activity includes walking approximately 1.5 kilometres over uneven terrain, lifting, twisting, pounding, bending and walking in the creek with chest waders.

Fitness	Toilet
Moderate fitness level required.	There is a vault toilet available at the meeting location.

Tools	Food
All tools will be provided by NCC.	Water and snacks will be provided.

Equipment Checklist

• sturdy closed-toe shoes you don’t mind getting muddy
• layers of long clothing (long-sleeved shirt, long pants, sweater)
• work or gardening gloves (these will be provided for those who do not have them)
• chest waders, if you have them (these will be provided for those who do not have them)
• life jacket, if you have one (these will be provided for those who do not have them)
• hat with a brim
• raincoat and rain pants (just in case)
• water bottle
• lunch/snacks
• sunscreen/bug spray
• any necessary medications
• change of clothes for end of day
• optional: binoculars

Additional event details, including directions and parking instructions, will be provided after registration. Please look for three emails with event information; one will be sent immediately after registration (scroll to the bottom of the email for the participant package), and a reminder will be sent one week, and then one day, before the event. No previous experience is required. This event is recommended for ages 14 and older. Participants must be comfortable working in the water while wearing chest waders and a life jacket. This event will proceed rain or shine, so please dress for the conditions: rubber boots, or shoes you don’t mind getting wet or dirty, long layers of comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting dirty, a hat and a change of dry clothes (just in case).

To allow us to plan for a safe, successful and enjoyable day in the field together, all participants must register in advance of the event. As space is limited and spots fill up fast, register today to confirm your attendance.
