  • Nature and communities need governments and business to invest in nature at COP16

    To halt and reverse nature loss and help insulate communities from the impacts of climate change, world leaders in government and business must match their words with investment at COP16. This is the call to action from the world’s conservation leaders, who last week gathered in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, for the Global Congress of the International Land Conservation Network (ILCN). Representatives from six continents and 26 countries discussed the urgent need to accelerate the pace of nature conservation, and shared information and examples of solutions to biodiversity loss and climate change that are succeeding worldwide. Ultimately, participants agreed that doing more, faster, requires increased financial commitment from all sectors of society.

  • Major Canada-wide nature conservation milestone reached

    — Environment and Climate Change Canada and its partners Nature Conservancy of Canada, Ducks Unlimited Canada, Wildlife Habitat Canada and Canada’s local and regional land trusts, have reached a significant conservation milestone. Together, they have surpassed a total investment of $1.5 billion dollars in the protection of private lands across the country. These conservation organizations have delivered $1 billion in funding and land donations to match $500 million from the Government of Canada’s Natural Heritage Conservation Program (NHCP). The NHCP is delivered through agreements with the Nature Conservancy of Canada, Ducks Unlimited Canada, and Wildlife Habitat Canada in collaboration with the Alliance of Canadian Land Trusts on behalf of 150 land trusts across the country.
