Fire information for BC conservation areas

With numerous wildfires burning across BC, the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is taking every precaution to ensure the safety of the public, contractors and our staff who visit our conservation lands. This includes closing access to conservation areas in wildfire affected areas.

Wildfire control and protection is the responsibility of the B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS), and NCC works closely with BCWS to monitor and manage any fire activity that occurs on NCC-held conservation lands.

NCC encourages everyone travelling around the province to please be vigilant with all ignition sources and respect any closures that may be imposed due to wildfires or fire danger.

Access closures

Please note that access on all NCC properties is subject to change as fire behaviour and conditions evolve. Check this page frequently for up-to-date information.

Access within the following conservation areas is currently affected by wildfire activity:

(Updated September 8, 2025)

Darkwoods

A wildfire on Darkwoods is limiting access into the conservation area. BC Wildfire Service has closed Porcupine Road. For now, Tye can still be accessed from Jersey Road from the south. This could change at any time.

For more information please refer to the BC Wildfire Service information bulletin.

West Chilcotin conservation areas

Due to ongoing wildfires, highway closures, and evacuation alerts and orders in the area, NCC has closed all conservation areas within the West Chilcotin to recreational/non-essential access. Please respect the current strain on communities and fire suppression efforts when considering any travel to or through the region.
