Nature finance and carbon offsets

NCC’s Nature + Climate Projects Accelerator connects businesses and investors with high-integrity conservation opportunities across Canada. Through carbon projects and other nature-based solutions, we mobilize private capital to protect more habitat and deliver measurable results for nature and climate.

Investing in nature can help businesses address climate and biodiversity risks and impacts while accelerating conservation across Canada.

Nature-based solutions

What they are

Nature-based solutions protect or restore natural systems so they can help address challenges like climate change, flooding, water quality and biodiversity loss.

We focus on opportunities involving fire, land, water and species at risk.

How we work

We work with businesses and public-sector partners to turn nature and climate commitments into credible conservation projects. Our solutions respond to specific environmental, operational and community needs while delivering measurable, long-term results.

Carbon Projects and offsets

What they are

By generating independently verified carbon credits, carbon projects channel funding to help protect and care for forests, wetlands and grasslands that capture and store carbon. These projects can generate independently verified carbon offsets while delivering lasting benefits for nature.

How we work

NCC develops and manages Canadian conservation projects that meet recognized carbon standards. Remaining proceeds from the sale of offsets generated by these projects supports land protection, monitoring and long-term stewardship.

    Carbon stored across NCC lands

280,000 hectares of private land are enrolled in NCC's carbon projects, with over 4 million credits sold to date

Leading the way with carbon credits

NCC developed Canada's first-ever Improved Forest Management project registered on the voluntary carbon market, helping demonstrate how conservation can deliver credible, measurable climate benefits

Our carbon projects, on the ground

Our carbon projects combine conservation expertise, independent verification and long-term stewardship to deliver measurable benefits for climate and nature.

Darkwoods Forest (British Columbia)

Our first carbon project has funded stewardship and conservation across Canada for 15 years.

Boreal Wildlands (Ontario)

A $10 million upfront investment from TD Securities in 2022 helped secure Canada’s largest-ever private conservation project.
