Our favourite natural places deserve a future. When you donate or sell land you own with ecological value to the Nature Conservancy of Canada, you’re ensuring it will be cared for and protected for generations to come. Start a conversation today to learn how you can protect Canada’s natural heritage.
Gifting your land starts with an assessment of its conservation value and how it can support our long-term goals for nature. This is a collaborative process from start to finish.
Landowner options
A range of options is available for landowners who want to conserve their land, whether through a donation, sale or conservation agreement. We’ll work with you to identify the option that best fits your land and your circumstances, including:
- Donating land for conservation
- Donating land through your estate
- Selling land for conservation
- Retaining a life interest after donating or selling land
- Split receipting (a partial donation)
- Donating or selling a conservation agreement
Ecological Gifts Program
Donations of ecologically sensitive land and conservation agreements may qualify under the Ecological Gifts Program, administered by Environment and Climate Change Canada, which offers enhanced tax benefits to donors.
Protect your land forever
By donating land, you can ensure it’s protected forever, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
Enhanced tax benefit
Donating your land can provide valuable tax benefits. If your property qualifies as an ecological gift, you may receive a charitable tax credit based on its certified fair market value and pay no capital gains tax on its increase in value.
Guidance at every step
We coordinate appraisal, certification and receipting to make the process as easy for you as possible.

Is NCC interested in my land?
NCC considers land with significant conservation value, including important habitats and ecosystems, areas that support species at risk and lands that connect or strengthen existing protected areas. Every property is assessed individually. Contact us early and we can help determine whether your land may be a fit.
